Seaspan Milestones

2024
  • Seaspan wins the GREEN4SEA Sustainability Award for its ESG Program.
  • Seaspan enters into a partnership agreement to retrofit and convert five 10,000 TEU conventionally powered containerships to dual fuel methanol.
  • 30 newbuilds are added to Seaspan’s orderbook, including 24 dual fuel vessels.
2023
  • Seaspan begins delivery of LNG dual fuel vessels, starting with the 15,000 TEU ZIM Sammy Ofer.
  • Seaspan’s 15,000 TEU ammonia dual fuel containership design wins Ship Design of the Year Award at the GREEN4SEA Europort Exhibition.
  • Seaspan enters a new market segment with the order of 10,800 CEU LNG dual
    fuel PCTCs that will be methanol and ammonia ready.
2021
  • Atlas becomes a participant of the UN Global Compact as an active member and publishes first Annual Sustainability Report.
  • Seaspan achieves newbuild orderbook of 70 vessels delivering through to 2024, including 25 LNG dual fuel vessels.
2020
  • Atlas Corp. is established as parent company.
  • Seaspan’s global fleet expands to 125 vessels and approximately 1,049,000 TEU.
  • Seaspan’s Decarbonization Strategy is developed and the Atlas and Seaspan ESG Program is established.
2019
  • Seaspan is awarded the 2019 Navis Inspire Award of Recognition in the Vessel Performance and Capacity Optimization category for its SAVER-concept vessel designs.
  • Seaspan’s global fleet approaches one million TEU.
2018
  • Seaspan completes a $1.6 billion acquisition of Greater China Intermodal Investments LLC Fairfax announces first investment into Seaspan of $1 billion.
  • Seaspan completes delivery of first two SAVER vessel series including 25 x 10,000 TEU and 15 x 14,000 TEU vessels.
2014

Seaspan starts to deliver vessels under the SAVER design concept.

2011
  • Seaspan is the first containership company to be accredited Triple E, an Environmental and Energy Efficiency rating, Level 3 by DNV for the MOL Emerald.
  • Seaspan is nominated for the Nor-Shipping Next Generation Ship Award for the design of our 10,000 TEU SAVER ship, recognized for its vast increase in operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.
2007
  • Seaspan is recognized for placing the most accumulated gross tonnage on the Hong Kong Shipping Register for two consecutive years.
  • DNV awards Seaspan a letter of commendation in recognition of our outstanding pioneering work in containership management.
2005

Seaspan Corporation’s $600 million IPO is the largest shipping and third largest transportation IPO in the history of the New York Stock Exchange.

2004
  • Seaspan Crew Management is established.
  • Seaspan is the first containership operator to break the 8,000 TEU barrier.
2000

Seaspan Ship Management is established.
